It’s a hot one.

KIMG0021Today was a hot one. One of the cooler days of the week, but none the less…hot. This is also week is fair week in our county, and usually a week of catching up with old friends, and making new ones.

We started today with clipping up a yearling heifer. We clip them for several reasons, one reason is neatness  like going from  to wild knotted hair to a military  cut.  Not long after figgy was clipped. We checked on an older cow named Who-ra. Today was her due date, and with time she had a little heifer. My son named her  Hetty.  We brought them into the barn and put them in front of fans, and gave plenty of water and hay.  Our cows  are kept at pasture, and we often let them calve in the pasture too.  There is plenty of space, and being in the grass, it’s cleaner. We were able to have Hetty stay with her mom, and made sure she got the colostrum she needed from Mom as well. We let mom out for a few a little bit, so she could get a break and stretch her legs. We will then bring her back in to be with her calf, and feed it. In this heat we need to keep a close eye on them.  Stay cool and drink plenty of water.

Here are also some fun farm trivia.

The moon  today will be FULL at 4:38pm with a partial eclipse.
The sign is capricorn, the knees…. tomorrow the fishing will be a good day. planting seeds today, there will be rapid growth, not much grain/fruit. Having surgery, the 20th is best because the sign will be the feet, and bleeding will be at a minimum. We had a heifer this morning so I am willing to think that from this afternoon will be bulls untill the moon changes again.

A few lessons past on from past generations.
